Step 4: Attach the Pergola Ledger to the Home

IMPORTANT: This step only applies to ATTACHED pergolas. This step is not applicable to freestanding pergolas (which have a post in all 4 corners and therefore "stand alone").

Attached pergolas attach to the home (or another structure) on the width side and therefore do not have posts on that side of the pergola. (This is why attached pergolas have half as many posts as freestanding pergolas, and incidentally, why they cost less money.)
