Attached Pergola Plans
Attached pergolas “attach” to your home (or another structure) on one side (thus eliminating the need for posts on that side). Please note that width and depth are NOT interchangeable. The pergola attaches to your home (or other building) on the width side, and the shade purlins run the width of the pergola.
Attached pergolas up to 20′ wide have 2 posts: one in each corner of the side that is not attached. Attached pergolas ranging from 24′ to 32′ wide have 3 posts: one in each corner plus one in the center of the unattached side.
Freestanding Pergola Plans
Freestanding pergolas are just that: free standing. They do NOT attach to any structure and therefore have posts on both sides. Please note that width and depth are NOT interchangeable. The shade purlins run the width of the pergola.
Freestanding pergolas up to 20′ wide have 4 posts: one in each corner. Freestanding pergolas ranging from 24′ to 32′ wide have 6 posts: one in each corner plus one in the center on each side (on the width side).
